Because usually a min payment is more than you can afford in a month, with high APR and is a great way to get into even more debt AND people on benefits usually find it hard enough to live let alone pay for a credit card.
People on here also get anoyed because even though you may have paid into the system yourself (like many others) they see it as you should be spending that money on rent, bills and looking for a job if your able to and not spending it on fags, booze, nights out and credit cards. (Im sure the credit card is, for you a way to pay bills but this is NOT really the way to go because you could be in more trouble long term)
People get funny because they see it as their money paying taxes for you to get benefits and your spending it on crap. AND as much as I hate to see this abuse and it's un called for, this IS a public forum with some very very nasty people as well as totally misinformed people (some of those on benefits also seem to be very very wrong about payments and entitlements lol) people have been hating on ANY user asking anything with the word benefit in it for some time on here, even when those are asking about pensions and payments and people with cancer on benefits! It's not a good time right now, you'd think people would understand.
Anyway I am in debt with credit cards BUT these were taken out when I WAS working and then spriralled out of control after I had to give up work to care for my partner.
BUT I would NOT now ever get another credit card ever ever again. It's just not worth it.
If you have cash flow problems or are in debt already and trying to pay them off, your best bet is to contact the CCCS for help, they can help reduce payments for other debts and will help you come up with a reasonable budget.
Of course this may not be the case at all, I can't comment further as I don't know your situation.
Sorry for people getting at you, but you will have to ignore people on here.

- Because if you are receiving benefits, you should only be receiving enough to get by. A person on benefits will very easily get into serious financial trouble. You may start with a 2% minimum payment which you may be able to handle, but when the bank jacks up the interest rate and charges 4% minimum payment, your benefits won't cover the CC payment plus your other living expneses.
Let's say your CC balance is $1000. Your minimum payment is 2%. That's a monthly payment of $20. Now raise the minimum payment to 4%, your monthly payment becomes $40. And when the interest rate goes to 29%, it will take much, much, much longer to pay off the bill. $40 a month for 6 years is $2880. That's a lot of money YOU can use instead of the bank.0% 0 Votes - Because you should be able to work out for yourself why having Credit Card debt whilst on benefits is 'not a good idea' ....
There are two types of people in the world .. ones who PAY interest, and the ones who COLLECT interest ... and the only difference between the two types is that one has worked out how to get the other to pay for their affluent lifestyle (I leave it to you to guess who is paying :-) )33% 1 Vote - Because people have a tendency to be nosey and judgement. I had to pick up a housing benefit form for a neighbour who was ill and I was hit with a barrage of intrusive questions. I only wanted a form that is freely available online, you would think i walked in there asking to borrow a £100 quid...
