CAPQUEST DEBT COLLECTORS?

Resolved Question

CAPQUEST DEBT COLLECTORS?

Just incase anybody has had this crap sent through the post which I susspect will happen sooner or later. Got a letter off these jokers saying I had to pay them £388.96 due to them buying the debt off HsBc (retail) but with the court costs and solicitors fees came to £468.73.

Ok now I did have a bank account with HSBC (yes thats all in capitals, unlike what they had typed) many years ago but as far as I was aware had a 0 balance as it had'nt been used in over 10 years. The debt was supposed to be from an account set up in 1999. I went to the bank and spoke to the manager, and guess what? everything was ok. I had nothing in the account, I owed them nothing and was told to forget it.

I contacted the police about it mainly to make them aware of it as I know elderly people would probably fall for this. There website is up and running, the telephone are working and its obviously a real companny but everything about it suggests fraud!!!!. Even the letters are done in away as to frighten people into paying over the phone straight away or by card etc as not to incur further daily charges.

Anyway that was that untill 1 week later anothr letter arrived. I phoned the company up at this point letting them know what I thought of them and that I had checked with the bank and informed the police. They said I had to write a letter of complaint and they would put the account on hold for 2 weeks untill it was sorted out.

2 days later another letter arrives. This time they say they would rather me pay the debt off and as an incentive very kindly set up a direct debit so I can pay it off in small amounts and for each payment they would credit my account to the value of 30% of the payment. ie I pay £50 per whatever and they give me £15. Saving me a total of around £116.73 of which I dont owe them in the first place!

I came upon a forum where it seems a few memebers have had the same problem. Somebody mentioned that after 7 years if you have not recieved anything or replied the debt is Statute Barred and you can become absolved from paying it (thats if you owe it in the first place).

Anybody know if this is true as I am still getting harrassed off this company to pay for somthing which I dont owe them in the first place ?.

I have also had dealings with Capquest before and they are a bunch of *******.

You are correct also that if you have not heard anything regarding a debt for 6 years (no contact at all between you and the company) and the company has made no effort to contact you then the debt should be wiped. I was told this by a gentleman at CCCS (consumer credit councelling service).

Ask for a letter if you can from HSBC confirming that you owe them nothing and that no debt has been sold. Then forward a copy to Capquest.

  • it may be a case of mistaken identity ask them to give u details of the debt and explain all that u have put here, that u have been to the bank what they told u etc and the police.

  • ask Capquest IN WRITING for verification of the debt. I asked for verification of a debt they say that I owed,and they replied it was CONFIDENTIAL information between them and the supposed debtor so I just ignored them and they have not contacted me since so if they do contact you again, threaten court action and that will do the trick . Do not be bullied by these clowns!!

That simply means you need an Auto Loan.
Cooler Solomon Loans.has a branch in London Uk.
and i am very sure they can offer that amount of money as loan.
write to them via email coolersolomon@yahoo.com

  • Guess you could go a few different ways. Improve your credit rating, get a loan online with a specialist 'bad credit' lender, buy a cheaper car, get the bus. Seriously though you should consider if you can really afford to maintain a large loan. You can get loans even with poor credit but need to ask yourself - will this just get me in more trouble?
    If you want to improve your credit score or still want that loan checkout
    http://www.getcarloancredit.com they offer loads of advice, fast credit repair (about a month) and loans.
    PS you might want to be a bit wary of someone who just gives you a freebee email address (yahoo) as a contact for a loan. I haven't checked but I would bet hard cash that it's dodgy. Best of luck anyway

  • How is it you can have bad credit and think you should be able to get a loan? YOU CAN'T AFFORD A CAR! THAT"S your whole problem YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS! YOU need a $500 car, not a $5k car! You need help alright, help getting your head on straight!!

  • Hi Katrina,

    If you get car finance via a car company - it is based on the car, not so much your credit.

    Would advise going to blackhorse finance - they helped someone I know with bad credit.

    Halifax started as a mutual building society, became a bank then merged with Bank of Scotland. It was taken over by Lloyds after Bank of Scotlands American interests collapsed.

Need Advice Please - credit card problems?

Hi, i have a credit card with Vanquis, and have recently found it difficult to keep up with my payments. No sooner do i pay what they ask, they charge me intrest which takes me over my limit, and then charge me for going over my limit. They have called me 27 times this week, (been counting), wanting yet another payment. I cant affort to pay them what they are asking, can someone give me some advice as to what i can say to them to get them off my back for a bit?. They have even called me at work - i diddnt give them my number they found it out somehow - and told the person who answered (not me) that they were calling from Vanquis bank!!. Its all getting on top of me so any advice would be appreciated!!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

I did a quick search and found a website with reviews about Vanquis credit card. The general consensus was to avoid this company like the plague. You need to do something about your financial situation. The fact that they called you 27 times this week is very disturbing. Is it possible to get help from your family? Vanquis will not get off your back unless you can make a payment.

You cannot ignore this. If you fail to work out a payment plan with Vanquis they can take you to court and get a judgement to garnish your wages.

You should stop using your Vanquis credit card for purchases. You should not get a payday loan because the interest rate is extremely high and will only make your situation worse. You may want to seek credit counselling.

  • Speak to them and tell them the problems you are having and maybe they can work with you. You are probably making the minimum payment on a maxed out credit card and thats why the interest is putting you over your limit. You have to try to make more than the minimum. Figure out what the interest is each month and pay that as well as the minimum payment. Once you get on your feet pay as much as possible until its paid off.
  • Try actually talking to them and working out a payment plan. Cut back on all extravagances (cable, cell phone plan, going out, eating out, entertainment, shopping,....). If it's really bad and you have other credit issues try contacting Consumer Credit Counseling, they will work out a plan with your creditors (you have to cut all your credit cards). Good luck.

When it says 0% purchace on credit card does it mean 0% for the first 9months that you have the card?

Resolved Question

When it says 0% purchace on credit card does it mean 0% for the first 9months that you have the card?

or does it mean 0% for ever every time you use the card?

Thank you in advance!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

To get the most out of your 0 APR credit card, read the terms and conditions carefully before you sign up. For all balance transfer cards, the 0% introductory rate will expire after a designated period. Make sure you know exactly when that period ends by reading the terms of the balance transfer, so you don't get hit unexpectedly with a high interest rate that will undermine your savings.

Also be sure you are aware of what the transaction fee is for each balance transfer. In some cases there is no fee, and that will be indicated in the card benefits or terms and conditions. Otherwise it is usually capped at $50 - $75 per transfer. Many credit cards consider convenience checks as balance transfers, but the money can go into your checking account instead of paying off another credit card. Again, make sure you are aware of the 0% interest period for the convenience checks and the transfer fee.

A card with a 0% APR gives you the option to make a large planned purchase earlier than you would otherwise be able to. It can also help you save money on interest, if the purchase is something you would usually finance, such as a car. Just be sure you have alternative financing lined up when the promotional rate expires.

If you pay the balance off in full before the introductory rate expires, these cards offer many benefits. Pay careful attention to the terms and conditions of the card, however, so you know exactly when the introductory rate expires and what would put you at risk for triggering higher rates.

  • You should contact the credit card issuer, the terms are disclosed in the information you received, usually in a pamphlet that most people just pitch. It's generally a teaser rate good for whatever specified amount of time on purchases only. If you miss a payment, it will generally void the 0% immediately.
  • It is an introductory rate. That means 0% on purchase for a set amount of time (looks like the first 9 months for yours).

    They do this so that you use they card and put charges on it without worrying about it. Come the 9 month mark, the interest rate will go to somewhere between 12% and 29% on any balance still on the card. That's when they start making their money off you.

    It's not a bad deal if you can keep the balance down.
  • the card should have it clearly written how long that 0% rate will last - might only be 90 days and it would be on the monthly balance - expect it to jump up to 20% or more once that 0% rate expires, so do not carry a big balance and be prepared to pay the balance in full once the rate changes or you'll get hammered with interests costs
  • You have to read the terms ,,, Could be anything or nothing .. Some it only refers to balance transfers , not new purchases . There will always be a limit on how long or for how much a 0% interest will apply ..Might be 9 months. might be 6 or even 12 ,, But certainly not for ever .. Make sure before you use it

  • Every time that you applied for credit in any place and even you have been denied at that moment, all the personal information that you have provided in that application will be reported to the credit bureaus. Besides this, remember that everything in this country is PUBLIC RECORDS, meaning that your information can be found easily. The only private information is your S.S. number ot avoid identity theft. I had old debts too but I worked with this company www.ncnlcorp.com and I have had very good results. They even removed accounts that I did not have to pay.
    Check this website and let me know if this was some help for you. Request them a free consultation, believe me it is good!

  • There are no specific prescribed needs for which a crisis loan should be paid. Generally applications are for:
    * a specific item or service; or,
    * immediate living expenses.

    For example, you might need to replace an important item of furniture and household equipment urgently. Or, you might need money for living expenses urgently because you have lost your money or it has been stolen or because you have spent all your money.

    There are some expenses that crisis loans cannot be paid for. For example you cannot get a crisis loan for;
    * medical items, spectacles or dental treatment;
    * most housing costs, like deposits to secure accommodation, mortgage payments or big repairs to your home. But you can get a payment for rent in advance if the landlord is not a local authority, to pay for board and lodgings, to meet intermittent costs like emptying septic tanks, or for minor repairs to your home;
    * buying or installing a telephone, or pay call charges;
    * running costs for a motor vehicle (such as repairs).

HMcourts-Service.G on my bank statement?

I'm going to be phoning up the fraud helpline since I don't think I did spend 60 pounds that day or month even. If anyone knows what this can be or might be, that might help me out a lot.

Thanks.

I googled the number, it looks like it may be from a telemarketing solicitor?

I just checked - I dialled the number, it's Manchester city Magistrates Court and it's a pyament line. Someone's used your debit card to pay a fine. Ever get a parking ticket? Best to query it with the bank, or phone them and ask them.

  • Rather helpfully, HMCS have printed their telephone number there.

    It's probably an input error on the courts behalf, when they were processing the sort code/account number to take payment from.

    I think the number probably is theirs - although not listed on the above page, it is very close.

What Are My Options for a Loan Now ?

Resolved Question

What Are My Options for a Loan Now ?

My partner & I just got our first flat together , as we are expecting our second child , but as you can imagine , Furnishing the flat is pretty difficult . We had a look at our ins & Outs and know we can afford a loan - to buy everything we need eg washing machine , cooker etc. Only problem is neither of us have any credit - resulting in low credit scores . We have only ever bought which we worked for in the past. Now im a housewife , so we went to my partners bank + asked about a loan - we thought this would work as he had been with them for 7 years and they know his account is always managed properly , but were declined . Can anyone help on what we can do now ? we have both checked our credit reports to make sure there was nothing on them that would affect this , and that's exactly whats affecting it .. having nothing on it . HELP ! ..

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

UK Answer:

You have three possiblities as I see it.

First off, you should pop into a branch of the bank that declined you and ask them to refer the application to a loans underwriter. Depending on the bank this should take between a couple of hours and a couple of days. Factors including the length of time at your address and whether you are registered on the voters' roll can affect your credit score, but shouldn't prevent you from obtaining credit if your other account relationships are OK. Sometimes all it takes is for the banks' underwriters to look at the applications rather than they be turned down by computer-scoring. There may have even been an issue with the application - perhaps the branch didn't enter a full three years address history onto the computer when applying, for example. Your own bank should always be one of the most likely to accept an application as they have a lot more information to go on than your credit score, such as a history of how you conduct your other accounts.

Second option, you could try Zopa, a UK service that matches people wanting to lend money with people wanting to borrow it- and getting great rates for both parties. http://redo.me.uk/zopa They have a special market for young people that specifically caters for people with no/limited credit profile. Failing that they also have a listings system where the decisions are ultimately made by the lenders themselves.

Third option - and I think this isn't the best option, is to go for a bad credit lender like Provident. However I don't see why you should have to do this as you'll pay a lot more interest for something you should be able to obtain at a lower rate anyway. But on the plus side, you are sure to get accepted - http://redo.me.uk/provident

So get down the bank and get it sorted!

  • try looking on Martin Lewis! im 18 and have no credit rating and have been declined for a loan and credit card everywhere just because i have never had credit before seems the credit crunch is stopping people like us having the chance to prove ourselves with things like these as noone is willing to give us the chance,

    keep trying but stick to the big companies dont go for a back street loan shark theyl end up ripping you off!!

    Source(s):

  • A low credit score or no credit score, generally both are treated as same in UK. You can try a private lender and if the interest rates are suitable for you, you can apply there. I have also suffered with this and though we have no fault but we face it. I had then used the site : www.ask4loan.co.uk
    to get the loan. You can also try your luck.
  • Try for a credit card, these are usally easy to get and help your credit rating so long as you pay them off of course! Or you could simply try looking for a loan elsewhere, you'd probably get a better deal anyway. Have a look on Martins Lewis' moneysavingexpert.com, it's a great help. Also try all the comparison sites etc.
  • Loan and the credit card was equally good. but before you chose to take loan. better you knew the kind of loan .
    there is :

    Secured Loan
    Here the loan involves the attachment of collateral--say, your property or any fixed/movable asset--against the sum of money borrowed. You risk losing your home should you fail on repayments.

    Unsecured loan
    There's no need for any collateral if you're borrowing an unsecured loan. However, you can anticipate for a higher interest rate because of the higher risk involved. Here, failure to make constant payments would see the lender fall back on the credit agreement and resort to legal claims to make good the loss incurred.

    Short-Term Personal Loans
    There are several sources for unsecured personal loans. Normally, interest rates are high in these kinds of loans.

    Fast Payday Loans
    Unexpected dilemmas involving money can happen. They may come in the likes of surmounting bills and car repairs. In case you do not have the extra money to meet these unexpected costs,

    Military Personal Loans
    Servicemen can enjoy military loans whenever they want to. Army military loans are offered by military loan companies to help servicemen to buy a home or a car or any other requirement that requires higher costs.

Am having a paypal problem not sure if its fraud?

am selling a camera on gumtree. the buyer asked to send the money via paypal. first paypal asked for the shipping receipt then they can credit the money to my account. then they sent me email saying their department has made an error with my payment, which they send £300 more than the total amount. so they asked me to send £300 via western union within 48 hrs refund the balance to the buyer so they won't stop the transfer of the payment in transit into my PayPal account. its truly a nightmare n i dont know if i should tranfer the £300. can someone familiar with these system tell me if i can trust this. many thanx

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Contact Paypal. Do not respond to the request for the Western Union transfer.

  • This is a variation of the classic scam where the buyer sends you too much money and then asks you to refund the overpayment. Of course the buyer sent you a counterfeit check or, in this variation, phony correspondence from paypal. It just screams SCAM!!
    By the way, Paypal's website tells you not to use Western Union unless you are absolutely sure who you are dealing with.
  • If you received an email from them, first do this: If you are using outlook, open the email, then under "View" click "Options" it will show you all of the header material. In the very first line you will see the "Return Path" listed. If it does not say paypal.com in the email address, then it is a fake!

    If you are unable to do this, look on the PayPal site for their support email address (you'll never reach them by phone!), and send them the email as an attachment, and explain to them you wish to know if this is legitimate or not.
  • well if ur not buying stuff on ebay i wont trust it
    paypal is not a fraud but if people ask u to send money to them first
    with out sending the item or giving u the shipping code i wouldnt do it
    and no Check the email address also
    it could be a fake check the email and talk to one of the paypal customers and tell them if this is real if they say yes then do it if not
    could be that guy ur selling it to making his money back
  • You're being scammed. Don't send any money. Call the authorities.

    My guess is that you clicked on a link provided you by the "buyer" that took you to a site that looked just like paypal but wasn't. Check the URL of the site you're on. Does is say paypal.com or does it say something like paaypal.com or pay2pal.com?
  • paypal isnt legally a fraud or spam but it has so many rules and guide lines that its not even worth it. they keep trying to keep my money that they owe me and now i have to find the loop hole past it. if you get one, be sure to be smart about it.
  • Don't send anybody anything via Western Union! You will never see it again! Just deal with PayPal only! It looks like a scam is being run on you. PayPal will keep the money is escrow to protect you. Don't send these people any money directly!!!!!!

    Source(s):

  • not familiar, but i know u feel pressured into doing this fast- but don't! it is probably fraud!! its not that hard to process payments if thats what your business does everyday- and u would just re do it on pay pal, not western union! has to be a total fraud!
  • Anything with western union is suspect. I wouldn't do it until you have all of the information and the money in your account.
  • don't trust paypal unless you are accessing it via the gumtree website. Paypal has been really dodgy lately aka people pretending to be paypal are sending emails aying you need to add extra details or something then stealing your details. DON'T DO IT! XX
  • its fraud. go to your paypal account, NOT THROUGH THE EMAIL LINK and check paypal, if the £300 is needed ul be £300 OVERDRAWN

    delete the email and dont worry and dont hand over any money
  • this does NOT sound right. I would cancel this transaction, and seek a refund immediately. It might help to call/e-mail PayPal ASAP.
  • Forget it - WEstern Union is a known scam alongside of PP.
  • It's a scam - don't touch it.
  • sounds like it report it to paypal and dispute

Im am new to ebay and a sign has come up saying 'Buyers have requested their payment total ' what does this mean and how do I send them their payment total? thanks

It means that you have sold something and the buyer wants to know their charge. If you go to "my account" "items sold" there is a drop down menu and it will allow you to send a "bill" to the buyer.

  • Vanquis spcialise in credit cards for those with a poor credit history so have you tried them? you will need to be on the electoral role though.

    Another alternative if you are trying to build up your credit rating is one of the prepaid credit cards like tuxedo or the bread card and i don't think they require credit checks just a valid UK address and passport or driving licence.

  • Now a days credit card is very essential one for every one. We like to keep a card to our wallet and spend money from it when ever needed. In case of emergency credit cards is very important and can lift us from our problems. But if we are stuck with poor credit getting credit card is very much challenging. But there is a good news. There are online banks and lenders who are ready to give instant credit card even to people with bad credit.

Why am I losing money when using PayPal?

Resolved Question

Why am I losing money when using PayPal?

Hi there guys,

I tried to make a purchase on eBay last Friday but for verification reasons I never went through with it, after this I was £1 down on my bank account. Then I made a purchase on the Sunday afternoon using my PayPal balance and another £1 disappeared.

Can anyone tell me why this is? Where it's going/Will I get the money back?

I know it'sa not a lot but it's money at the end of the day!

Thanks =)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

its the way paypal (and ALL merchants) verify the card by charging
a small amount (usually dollar) to make sure the card is reall
it falls off after a day or som
the money will come back in a couple of days

  • Hiya mate. This is normal. But feel free to contact them by phone. Their customer service is second to none. Absolutely excellent! They will explain it to you but if you are still unsure just ask them to repeat it a little more slowly. They really are the best in the business, but as someone else said, a little expensive.
  • Paypal charge you a nominal fee unless you spend over £50 in one go.
    It's all in the small print.
  • they probably charged you cuz they want to get your account verified
  • because paypal sucks. You lose money using a credit card as well...it is called interest.

How do overdrafts work,i am a bit thick when it comes to financial stuff?

Resolved Question

How do overdrafts work,i am a bit thick when it comes to financial stuff?

i have a £1000 overdraft facility with my building society,i have never had to use it but i may need to soon,so say if i overdrew £500 how would they take it back? can i pay it back weekly/monthly????

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

If you take the money from your overdraft, the next time any money goes into your account it will pay the overdraft off - example below:

Overdraft = 1000
Withdraw = 500
Overdraft Now = 500

Pay in 300
Overdraft Now = 200

So you will still be in your overdraft facililty. Once your in it, it is very hard to get back out again.

Hope this helps!

  • Basically, an overdraft gives you an extension to your current account and allows you to spend money you don't have. There's no timescale on paying it back but you will be charged interest on it every month it's overdrawn so the bank are quite happy for you to leave it overdrawn as it gives them an income.

    If there's anyway you can avoid using it please do so because once you start it's very difficult to stop unless you know there's a lump sum payment coming your way soon which will put the account back in credit.

  • You might want to consider arraigning a loan with them I believe but I am happy to be corrected that the interest rate will be more favourable to you, plus your overdraft facility remains intact for emergency's. Go and talk to them.

Natwest Adapt Account...Is it worth it?

Resolved Question

Natwest Adapt Account...Is it worth it?

I really want a debit card so i can store and save up my money without loosing it. I heard of the Nat west Adapt Account for teens. Is it any good? I am an orange phone holder as well so i heard you can get discounts on top ups as well? thanks x

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Hi, I had a bank account with Natwest when I was 12 or so, and had their Solo debit card when I was 13 I think.

I found it great! My mum didn't have to worry about me being mugged for cash or running out of cash/small change as I had a debit card and cash card. (ie use a debit card to pay for items when no cash machines were around) I had more independance so learned to manage and budget my own money. I didn't have to nag for money, relatives could put money in my account if they wanted so I could go and buy clothes and school items.

I think it's really important for teens to have their own accounts and debit cards. Your parents can of course still keep an eye on you and the money but it's really healthy for you to start doing things for yourself!

I'd say go for it! Natwest are great fo young people's account!

EDIT:
Actually your more likely to save money by opening a bank account because your not likely to spend the cash you have put away in a drawer!
I'm the same at age 26. If it's in the bank and put away, I can't spend it as much as grapping it from a saving box and nipping to the shops.

When I was 11 I had £300 pound saved up in my account!!!!
Purely because it was away from the adults hands, away from mine and I would go into the bank to take the money out!
Opening a bank account is the best start you can give a teen. It teaches them to handle money and learn how to budget along with seeing their balance grow.
It also teaches responsibility on HOW to save and keep money! I will aolways give my kids an account! (there are some with parental control so don;'t see the problem!)

Id rather a teen learn how to save and budget now, than getting their hands on x amount when they hit 18 and go wild like SOOOOO many kids today, especially if they get to UNI and get their mits on credit cards and loans.

My credit card was used at a cash point by some one else?

Resolved Question

My credit card was used at a cash point by some one else?

when i reported this to the police and the credit card ppl they informed me that it wasnt a cloned card transcation and that it was of a chip and pin transcation which means the person would have had to have my card, the police and credit card ppl wanted to know my activity for that day and unfortunately i only used it early in the morning at a drive thru outlet for breakfast where i was the passenger in my car and we had a collegue in the back and my other collegue driving the chip and pin machine had no protector so anyone could have seen my pin, it was straight as after this about 2hrs later thats when my card had been used as a withdrawal and they put the card back in my bag, i also reported this to my line manager at work, who then reported to the other manager who my collegue in the back of the car works for but i did say to my boss that i dont know for sure who has used it but i had to informed the police and credit card company of this as it was an event in the day i didnt accuse any of my collegues but somehow word got around in the office that i was accusing the collegue in the back of the car and now apparently he is fuming with me.. again i did not accuse him someone who told him changed the story and was going around saying i accused him.
I was abit worried of this as i didnt accuse him of anything but obviously ppl like spreading gossip in the office now i am concerned he may damage my personal assets i.e car or be aggressive towards me because of mis information that he has received from some one else. i mean would he do that because my boss was saying that if anything was to happen to me or my car or something else then the blame would go on him and he will lose his job if he did that. am i right?

Additional Details

is it just the case that he is angry that he thinks he got accused when i havent even accused him i just had to inform my work place as that was what the police advised? because him and my other collegue were the only ones in the car at that time and also the card was taken out of my bag and used then put back which i find extremely strange and the credit card ppl said it definately wasnt a cloned card transcation that someone had access to my card.
i mean if he did anything now the blame would go on him right? and i dont think he wants to lose his job am i right in thinking he is just annoyed and he may just want to speak to me bout it and leave it there?

if your card has an RF chip for internet purchases... it can be cloned using RF scanners. I actually caught someone carrying a briefcase with a robust machine to scan and download credit card numbers within 24" of the device.
