Despite what people are saying below, HSBC will NOT accept an expired passport as a form of ID. Other forms include a Photocard driving licence, a letter from one of the benefits agencies awarding or confirming your entitlement to benefits - providing that letter is not over 4 mths old.

But, different banks have different lists of what is and is not acceptable. Again with HSBC, an original birth certificate or marriage certificate is not accepted.

  • Driving licence is an acceptable form of ID, you could back it up with a utility bill.
  • Old passports ok but you'll definitely need a bill of some sort or something with your address on it also.
  • Your expired passport should be ok, I used mine for ages as id and was allways accepted
