If you are being asked for an "up front fee" for insurance or prepayment because you are a credit risk it IS a scam. Do NOT fall for it. You will never see a penny of this so called loan they are offering you.

Get off the internet #1 if you are trying to get a loan from a legitimate lender. You are just opening yourself up to all the scammers out there who see you as a perfect target.

If your credit is horrendous, the only loan you will get is a payday one or one from a pawn shop if you have something valuable to pawn. You will not get a loan if your credit sucks. That is just the way it is.

  • Hi There,

The legitimate loan companies will never ask for upfront fees or charges for issuing you a loan. So if anyone is asking you for such a thing you can just sense out them to be a scam company.

Legitimate companies would only charge you anything only after your loan is approved and as per the small prints in the Loan Agreement.

  • Uk answer: AVOID companies offering 'too good to be true' loans in return for an up-front fee. You can guarantee that you won't see the fee (or the loan) again and you will be left even further out of pocket.

Speak to your own bank about a loan - they will often consider your circumstances in detail if you've had a long-standing account relationship with them.

If the reason you are looking at non-mainstream lenders is that you have had credit problems in the past, then be aware that the interest rates charged by non-mainstream lenders are much higher than banks. However they will not charge you upfront fees.

Provident Bank is one such lender - they are regulated by the Consumer Credit Act and specialise in bad credit loans.
