Credit History - Wrong information, could i claim?

Hi,

I closed my barclaycard in January 07 and barclaycard have always insisted its closed when i've rang and enquired about it. But for 2 years its been open on my credit history and barclaycard have every month processed that my account is open to my credit history and this has made my file look bad because its showed that i havent fully utilise the credit i have available when infact it was closed. Could i claim?

Thanks x

You need to contact the credit reporting bureaus and notify them that the account was closed at your request.

  • Hi!
Not quite sure what you mean when you say 'can I claim'? Are you asking for compensation for their mistake? If so, I don't think you will be very successful. You should write to Barclaycard explaining the circumstances and give them seven days to reply and put things right. Make sure you keep a copy of the letter. If you receive no response, go to your Citizens Advice Bureau who will be able to advise you what to do next. Explain to them that you feel it is affecting your credit rating and that Barclaycard have not responded to your requests to have the card removed from your history.
    Hope this helps.

  • UK answer: No, you cannot claim and no, it hasn't made your credit file look bad - untapped credit facilities are viewed by almost all lenders as a sign of financial health.

  • I sure hope not. Why do people always look for a way of making a quick buck whenever anything doesn't go quite the way they wanted it to?
