First time credit card....which one do i pick?

I'm considering getting a credit card but i need some advice on which one is the best...
I work for argos and was considering the argos mastercard (3mnths interest free credit on purchases)...but ive also seen the Bank of Scotland All In One Creit card and that has 9mnths interest free credit on all purchases..AND is lower apr...

I guess the BOS one is best but has anyone seen a better one??

Uk answer: You have managed for this long without a credit card, and whilst they are very useful do bear in mind that they can be an expensive form of credit - if you don't pay them off every month!

The 3/9 month interest free period for balance transfers probably isn't of much use to you (unless you have storecards, in which case get that balance transferred over and CLOSE the storecard because they are all really expensive!) The problem with the interest free period on purchases can be that you get used to maintaining a balance and are not too concerned because it doesn't attract interest and then.... wham! They interest free period runs out and all of a sudden you're paying through the nose.

As mentioned, a credit card can be a useful thing, for internet purchases (they pretty much all offer some sort of online guarantee) and for the protection they afford should a supplier go bust (for example, booking a flight on a credit card will be get you a refund if the airline goes bust).

If you intend to pay the card off every month (or most months) then the interest rate becomes less of a concern. In this case, you should look to the other benefits of the card, which could include a points scheme or cashback. The card you have identified in your question, the Bank of Scotland all in One card (also available from the Halifax) is one such card as it offers cashback. If you pay your balance in full each month then not only could you benefit from 56 days interest free credit, but also get 1% of your spend each year back as cash - which is better than nothing, of course!

A comparison table of various credit cards showing interest rates and benefits including cashback is provided here: http://redo.me.uk/bestcreditcard

Hope this lot helps you.

  • Don't do it, don't get one. It is NOT worth it. If you have survived this long without it, why do you need one. Ask yourself why do you want one? Are you tempted to make more purchases from Argos at a discounted rate? Can you afford to pay off the full amount every month and/or the interest?

In this day and age when jobs a scarce and money is tight. You don't want to lose your job and still have to pay a credit card bill.

  • Dont Get One you could end up in piles of debt you can say you wont i've heard people say that and almost all the time end up in debt instead get a debit card attached to your banking account and just use the money you have and dont risk going into debt

  • If you are going to pay off the whole amount off each month, then it doesn't matter which you one get.

But what you added, then a credit card is not for you, and you have no idea how much debt you will get into.

  • DONT get one, the best card to have is a debit card.
It costs nothing and if you have not got the money in your bank you cant spend it.

Simply there are no best credit cards they all lead to debt and ruin!
